Life's Side Trips...and Yoga

Call me crazy!!  Yeah...don't worry...I'm used to it!!  I've survived raising two teenagers who thought I was I was bonkers at times.  So you won't offend me by calling me crazy...but I digress!!

I was talking to my daughter the other day, telling her the obvious.  "Y'know, Honey, I really need to get back in shape."  (Okay, so I didn't hear her actually say it, but c'mon...you know damn well she said to herself, "Duh, Mom!!").  The next day, she called to tell me that she needs me around for a good long time, my grandkids need me around for a long time...y'know..all that stuff that gives you a lump in your throat.  So, since I woke up at 4 this morning (don't ask!), I decided to throw in the DVD of Rodney Yee's Yoga for Beginners.  Now I wasn't able to do a whole lot of the moves, given that I managed to bruise my legs pretty badly over the weekend as I was trying to be very helpful, albeit clumsy, in getting a very large desk removed from my home...but again, I digress!

The point I want to make here is, the little bit of yoga I did this morning brought me such energy.  It's amazing!  This is not a new process for me, either.  I did this same yoga years ago, with the same energizing results.  It's just that sometimes, when you take on all the little side trips that life throws your way, you sometimes get lost in what you know works for you.

So today is a new start to my healthful, energized life.  I will get to bed earlier so that I can get up earlier to spend my mornings with Rodney!

And I just want to ask....what have you lost sight of because of life's little side trips???  And what are you going to do to get it back?

Hummm....I tried Yoga once and didn't like it. Maybe I should try it again! (You still have to get out of your chair and stop eating during it--right? Or have they changed the rules?)

About a month ago I decided to try yoga, again, as I had attempted to master the art of the yogi a few times in years past. Unfortunately, Katie and Ella were with me as I watched (and stretched) with a DVD. Katie tried to go along with it, however when she turned and said, "This lady's voice is really soft and calm and kind of driving me crazy", that I knew it wasn't going to work. And having Ella crawl between my legs as I attempted to stretch made me realize it wasn't working for me, either. Soon I'll try again - because I believe yoga is GOOD. Great post, PK!

Wow! Good for you. I have thought about yoga for a long time. Thinking about it does not have the same affect as actually doing it I guess. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!!

PK - How great for you that you're getting back to your Yoga. It motivates me to finally take that Yoga DVD out of the bag (the one I bought six months ago), out of the wrapper, and actually put it in the machine and try it out. Keep us posted on your progress!

HOOORAY! I hopped over here from another blog...your post caught my eye cuz I teach yoga. I have quite a few grandmas of all ability levels come to my classes and I have seen some dramatic improvement in the way they move and feel over the years. I can also tell you what it has done for my own well being. So great. Just wanted to tell you to keep it up. Yoga will always rise up and meet you where you are, so just keep going...

I never thought Yoga was exercise until I tried it. It's the only exercise that I actually look forward to doing.
