A Journey in Mindfulness

It's a funny thing about this place known as blogland. Just as if you're at a party with a lot of people you don't know, you move thru the room and meet people.  Some you connect with and others you listen to and decide that you don't want to continue the relationship.  Recently, I came across a blog I enjoy.  LifeUnity is a blog that focuses on awareness.

About three years ago, I was part of a research group that considered whether mindfulness had an effect on the recurrence of breast cancer.  When we met, we learned mindfulness exercises, yoga, being still and eating healthy.  Unfortunately, I didn't carry on with what I learned.

Back to LifeUnity.  Lisa has a project that started today that invites us to practice mindfulness.  I signed up for it.  It's called Wild Elephant Project

Day 1 - it's working.  'Twas a more mindful day for me today.  I paid attention to things that I would normally do without thought.  All because I did them with my non-dominant hand.  (Try brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand).

Looking forward to where this will lead.  I'm expecting delivery of the book that inspired this project in a couple of days.  Should be an interesting journey.

Care to join me?  Stop by here to let Lisa know.  And I'll keep you posted on how things go for me.

If I tried to brush my teeth with the other hand, I'd either knock out my teeth, or lose an eye!

Good luck with it!

Interesting. This would encourage extreme mindfulness, or help teach a person who has difficulty being mindful. I tell myself to not let a moment of life slip by unnoticed. Savor moments and surroundings and details. Awareness/mindfulness. There's a fine difference. One does not have to be aware of everything at once, but mindful of the matter at hand. Sometimes one slips into their thoughts to the exclusion of all else, but can practice mindfulness there, as well. Enjoy the exercise. I imagine you'll enjoy the ensuing discussions, too.

There is no doubt I need to be more mindful, Peggy. I am always going from one thing to the next and always planning my next move in my mind.

I need to check it our. Thanks for the info!

Mindfullness - what a great tool for life. I have been more mindful of the energy I leave behind - having just exited a dark place for myself. I look forward to reading more about your journey.

"I paid attention to things I would normally do without thought" -- yes!! Me too! After one day I can already tell this will have quite the impact on my life. The speed at which I go through life, putting most mundane tasks on auto-pilot, has taken me to a way of living that simply isn't satisfactory.

I'm so glad you are on this journey and hope that it continues just as well for you! (And I anxiously await your review of the book as well. Obviously I took all of the exercises from this book, but the authors provide a wealth of insight into the practices as well. I enjoy their reflections just as much as the practice!)
(P.s. thank you too for the links!!)
